Those Who Claim to Be Semitic”

It is a cruel irony of fate that the most heinous crimes are being committed against an palestinian people—the Palestinians, who are the  land owners, history, and culture , while anyone who dares express solidarity with them is accused as “antisemitic.” This is no longer a mere play on words; it has evolved into a systematic policy designed to invert truths, distort history, and legitimize a racist colonial project cloaked in the garb of historical victimhood.

In recent decades, the term “antisemitism” has been weaponized into an ideological tool used to silence free voices and criminalize moral and humanitarian stances opposing the Israeli occupation. Even peaceful protests in European capitals condemning the ongoing genocide in Gaza have not been spared from this ready-made accusation. The Israeli government quickly labeled them “antisemitic incitement,” and found echo chambers in several Western governments, as if standing with the Palestinians now equates to racial hatred.

But before we are accused or forced to defend ourselves, we must ask the fundamental question: Who are the Semites, really? Is every Jew necessarily Semitic? And does criticizing Israel automatically make someone antisemitic?

Historical and anthropological sources consistently identify Semites as the descendants of Sam, the son of the prophet Noah. These are, in essence, the Arabs who settled in the Arabian Peninsula, Mesopotamia, and the Levant—including Palestine. This category encompasses people of different religions—Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike—but what unites them is not faith, but shared ethnic, cultural, and linguistic roots.

In contrast, most Jews today—particularly Ashkenazi Jews from Europe and North America—are not ethnically Semitic. They are largely descended from Japheth, another son of Noah, according to religious texts and genealogical records. Some, like the Khazar tribes in Eastern Europe, adopted Judaism centuries later but have no ancestral link to Sam. This is confirmed by a well-known saying of the Prophet Muhammad:

“Sam is the father of the Arabs, Ham the father of the Africans, and Japheth the father of the Romans.”

Based on this, reducing “Semitism” to “Judaism”—as political Zionism does—is not only a distortion of history but a deliberate act of ideological monopolization. More dangerously, this monopolization is used to justify the systematic persecution of an Arab Semitic people who are punished simply for rejecting occupation, displacement, and cultural erasure.

The term “Semitism” has thus been stripped of its historical and anthropological meaning and transformed into a political weapon to suppress dissent. Supporting Palestinians is now a crime. Criticizing Israeli policy is taboo. Rejecting apartheid and settler colonialism is seen as Holocaust denial.

And so, those being killed, displaced, and dispossessed today—Palestinian Arabs—are the true Semites. Yet those committing these crimes do so under the false banner of “defending Semitism,” in one of the most profound historical and ethical paradoxes of our time.

No one denies the horrors of the Holocaust endured by Jews in Europe. But this historical tragedy has today been morphed into a blank political license, exploited by the Israeli state to justify colonial expansion, collective punishment, and mass displacement. The “memory of Semitism” is invoked not to honor victims, but to silence critics and shield perpetrators.

The painful truth is that the Palestinian—an Arab and a Semite by lineage—is being slaughtered in broad daylight, while the world stands by, too afraid of the accusation: “antisemitism.”

This is no longer just a struggle over land. It is a struggle over history, meaning, and identity. Today, the one being massacred is the Semite. And the one killing in the name of Semitism is the oppressor. You are now required to surrender your rights, your language, your memory—just to prove you are “not antisemitic.”
